Can Twins Have Different Birthdays?
By definition, twins are born at the same time, right? They share everything, including a birthday. That’s true for the most part, but there are some exceptions. And in some cases, it causes problems. For example, these twin girls born recently in England: Lexus and Amber Conway. They were born on August 31st and September 1st, straddling the cut-off date for starting school. Are they doomed to be in different grades?
Personally, I think it would depend on the girls’ status when it’s time to start school. Most likely, there won’t be a maturity difference great enough to justify letting the first born twin start kindergarten without her sister. I’d lean towards holding the firstborn back until the following year, or finding an alternative school that would waive the cutoff date in favor of allowing the second born twin to start with her sister.
