The East End Cooperative Ministry’s Food Pantry came up with a baby shower idea that got the whole community involved. Cake was offered to those who dropped off baby items to help children in need.

“When you’re struggling to get by, $25 a week for a can of baby formula takes a gigantic bite out of your household budget.” says Kate Snyder, Development and Donor Communications Coordinator.

This idea led to thousands of baby products being donated and very successful baby shower.

Children should never be in need of basic necessities and I think this is one community that absolutely agrees.

When talking about baby showers, many people don’t really know what it’s all about or how it got the name. You see, the baby shower received its name from the bridal showers where the couple is showered with a lot of gifts from loved ones. In the case of the baby shower, the baby receives lots and lots of gifts from the parents’ loved ones, family members, colleagues and friends.

If you are going for a baby shower party, you should know that the theme of the baby shower party is important. It is the theme that sets the pace for the nature of the party. It also sets the rhythm for the kind of gifts that will be brought in to the party for the baby. It’s important therefore for you to know the theme and know what kind of gift to give to the baby that will rhyme with the theme.

For Christians, Christmas is a period where people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. All over the world Christmas is seen as a time to make others happy. Gifts fly up and down. If it were possible you are expected to give your enemy gifts to show the love of God during this festive season. Babies are not excluded in this time; they get to have a bite of the “giving” cake too. You can pick such a festive period as the right time to give baby gifts. No one says you must give baby gifts during baby shower parties alone.

Sometimes you can decide to attach your photograph to a baby gift. This can be pasted in a little corner of the baby gift. This is more realistic if it is a big thing like furniture. On the other hand you can also attach the baby’s photo graph to a gift for him or her. This is all just part of making the gift you will give appear a lot more unique than the everyday baby gifts that others will give.

A pack of socks for all ages is a welcoming baby gift idea. A child needs booties from the minute he or she is born into this world. But do not only give booties; add many other sizes so that you can be remembered for a long time. Be very flexible with the colors that you choose. Do not choose only white. Get a variety of colors to go with the baby’s clothes on daily basis.

Planning and executing is always fulfilling at the end of the day, when you are able to find the right baby gift. If you have decided to buy a basket and fill it up for a baby shower of a dear friend, arranging the basket is one of the important things that you will do. A tip that will help you is this – put the heavier things under the basket and the lighter things on top.

Burp clothes come in different shapes and sizes. Every child needs such sets of clothes to clean up the messes made. They are small pieces of napkins that are washable that you will need to continually use to clean up babies. They need this several times a day and they come in many decorative ways, some have trimmings round the edges. Such gifts can also be personalized.

These days, special baby showers are also organized for dads. It is called The Pampers Showers. The dad is also showered with gifts along with the baby. Sometimes it holds on the same day with the baby shower or on a different day. There are no rules. Probably this is to welcome the father into the fatherhood life.

The baby is coming soon and it’s time to celebrate!! Babyshere.com offers a number of attractive options that are also envrionmentally friendly. They carry everything from classic baby shower invitations featuring Winnie the Pooh to invitations with bright modern graphics.* Cards are printed on 100% Post Consumer Recycled paper with a matte finish.
* Envelopes are made of 100% Post Consumer Recycled paper. The are 70 pound paper and provide a nice feel and protection for the card. The envelopes are also produced with a chlorine free process and are Forest Steward Council certified.
* Shipping is done through the US Postal Service. The reasoning for this is because they come to your house nearly every day and there is a minimal incremental impact to having a package sent through them. They do not have to drive a big truck all the way to your house just to deliver our package. Their packing materials are nearly 100 percent recycled or certified. The only item that is not is the plastic bag that the card and envelopes are packed in to protect them from humidity and water damage.

In their own words
“We use recycled and low impact products around the office as much as we reasonably can and do little things like turn off the lights and computers at the end of the day. These little things along with our other efforts we hope add up to make a big difference.”

Planning a baby shower can be a fun but challenging task. One task crucial to many baby showers is picking the right baby shower invitations. Below are some ideas for baby shower invitations.1) Themed Baby Shower Cards – Baby shower invitations cards are the most common way to invite guests to your special occasion. These cards come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and themes. Some printers will even print your own personalized text onto the card.

2) Candy Wrapper Birth Announcements – Candy wrappers are another popular way to announce a baby shower. The guest will receive a candy bar or other tasty treat and the wrapper will contain the information for the baby shower.

3) Invitation in a Bottle – The invitation in a bottle is a more expensive, but fancy baby shower invitation. A baby shower invitation card will be inserted into a plastic baby bottle. Colored paper and other goodies can also be inserted into the bottle before it is delivered to your guests.

4) Baby Shower Save the Date Magnets – A baby shower magnet with the date of the shower is another great way to invite your guests. When they receive the magnet, they can stick it on their refrigerator to remind them of the date of the shower.

5) Personalized Fortune Cookie Invitation – Yet another unique way to invite your guests is to have the invitation inside a personalized fortune cookie. Invite your friends to dinner and the fortune cookies will contain the surprise baby shower invitation to top off the evening.

Top Ten Trendiest Baby Shower Games

1. The Price is Right Game: This is quite similar to the TV Show. Gather some baby Items from the store and keep the receipt. At home write the price of each item you bought and place it in an envelope. The person who collects the most cards without going over wins the game.

2. The Baby Shower Scramble: Decide on 10 words that are baby related and scramble the letters. (aybb = baby) Print out multiple copies for your guests and give them 5 minutes to un-scramble

3. It’s a Whopper: It’s a game where you try to match words that pertain to pregnancy, birth, etc. to candy bars. Example: umbilical cord = twizzlers, contractions = whoppers, etc…….

4. Quick Draw: Give each of your guests a paper plate and a crayon. Have each person take the paper plate and place it on their heads while drawing a baby with the crayon you gave them. Have the mommy-2-b pick the winner. Everyone will crack up with laughter at the thought of having to draw on their heads.

5. Estimated Time Of Birth: Buy the little plastic babies you can find at cake stores and put them in an ice tray with water in the freezer. Put one iced baby in each person’s cup of water and ask them to log their estimated time of birth for the iced baby. Once the ice completely melts the baby is born and the person with the closest estimated time wins.

6. Family Tree: Give your guests a list of famous television families and ask them to name the children. Examples: The Waltons, Growing Pains, Brady Bunch, Leave It To Beaver…etc.

7. Baby Shower Taboo: Every guest receives a safety pin when they arrive. The instructions that come with the pin are that they cannot mention certain word throughout the time of the shower (like baby, mommy, pregnant) or the person who catches the word gets the pin(or pins) This encourages your guests to mingle because whoever has the most pins at the end of the shower wins.

8. Memory Lane: use a regular school binder (3 ring) and decorated with baby material, lace, etc. I purchased scrapbook sheets with baby motifs and inserted them in sheet protectors and placed them inside the binder. Be sure to purchased enough sheets to give the mother plenty of pages to post pictures, birth announcements, etc. Then prepare several sheets of paper that have a baby border or baby graphic. As each guest arrives or at sometime during the party, ask each guest to write down some helpful hints, baby advice, words of encouragement to the mother or the baby to be, including their name and their relationship to the mother and the baby to be. Collect these sheets, insert them into sheet protectors and insert them into a baby memory album. This will be something both the mother and the baby will enjoy throughout their lives and will be a very treasured gift.

9. What Will You Call The Baby?: Make a list of all the animals you can think of and get your guests to fill out what the names of the baby animal would be. For example, Kangaroo – Joey.

10. Famous Babies: Go through the latest magazines and cut out pictures of babies. Then cut out the just the faces of a variety of famous people (no hair or necks just the faces) and paste them to the baby bodies. Have your guests try to figure out who is who just by looking at their faces on the baby body.
